50 Cent is taking it back to the original hustle, hitting the streets with that raw and uncut. It was his mixtape grind which first made the G-Unit general a unmovable force in rap and no matter the industry banter or label politics, Fif won’t stop feeding the block. “I’m back on the streets man, it’s goin’ down. Gangsta Grillz, the first Gangsta Grillz, it’s been long overdue,” 50 told Mixtape Daily on Friday while he was sitting in his G-Unit office in midtown Manhattan. On May 22 Fif is teaming with DJ Drama to drop The Lost Tape, a 13-track mixtape filled with murderous material. “I don’t want to put too many joints on a tape where it overwhelms people and I don’t like making Now compilations where I got so many people on it where you ain’t sure you like it,” he said of his formula. Fif is no stranger to the mixtape circuit; in fact he defined the grind that is crucial to almost every rap artist today when he dropped the now classic 50 Cent is the Future in 2002. Since then 50 has followed up with unforgettable titles like No Mercy, No Fear, Sincerely Yours, Southside, Forever King and The Big 10 which he dropped at the top of December. Today you’ll be hard-pressed to find a rap artist who doesn’t drop a mixtape to get their buzz up. Not that 50 needs a buzz, he’s just doing what he enjoys, so next up is the Lost Tape, his first collaboration with DJ Drama The pair had planned to link up some years ago, but things didn’t pan out. “It’s just timing, things change too,” 50 explained. “I had the name for it and everything Blood in a Gangsta’s Grill and we never actually went to actually create the tape because technology at that period opened up in a way that I can distribute the music to the masses without actually utilizing a DJ.” Now, with the upcoming The Lost Tape fans will finally get to hear the two mixtape kings in tandem. The RapFix team got an early listen and trust us, it’ll be well worth the wait. After all who do you think started this mixtape thing? “When someone handing you a mixtape out there, like 'Yo I’m hot' and handing you a mxitape, they don’t realize they’re handing you that tape because of me,” 50 said.
